Alcove made of wood. Ideas and recommendations

The ideal place for outdoor recreation in a private house or dacha is a gazebo. Spacious and comfortable structure, in which you can enjoy nature, and sit among friends, and seclude yourself with a cup of tea and a book, should be both aesthetically attractive and reliable. And in the modern market options for the realization of gazebos a large number — for every taste and budget. In our article we will talk about the options from wood: what kind of gazebos from wood, what wood is suitable, and, of course, we will show interesting solutions.

What kind of pergola from wood to make?
To decide to erect a pergola to take into account a lot of things: for example, the size of the site and the house, so that the structure looked proportionate and proportional, style elements, the overall landscape and architectural design, so that the structure looked harmonious and thoughtful. Of course, design features, so that the gazebo was reliable, stable, and most importantly comfortable for the owner — you need to take into account in advance the planned capacity and filling: the location of the table, benches or, perhaps, barbecue, swings and so on. And most importantly — to choose the right material. But about everything in order. What are the gazebos?

If we start with the basics, gazebos come in:
— Open. The maximum simple variant. Usually consist of poles and a canopy, decorated with curly plants. Can be in the form of both a traditional rectangle, and a more unusual polygon. The main disadvantage of such structures is poor protection from natural precipitation and wind. As an option that can help in this, the use of soft windows. Such structures also include pergolas (special sheds made of bars, which are braided with curly plants) and rotundas (structures with a circular layout and columns).
— Semi-open. The most common variant. They represent a structure with walls in the form of borders or fences. There are variants with one or two closed walls. This is already a more reliable option, and from the wind here also help various curtains, nets or soft windows.
— Closed. These are full-fledged small houses with windows and doors, which are also called «summer kitchen». In them you can install heating devices, and conduct lighting without fear of getting wet. Rest in such gazebos can be in winter, especially if you initially build an insulated version.

More gazebos can be prefabricated (which are installed only for a season) and stationary. It is clear that collapsible structures are less reliable and not always convenient, but they cost a budget, and the location of the recreation area can be changed. With stationary structures, on the contrary, it is assumed that the place will be chosen thoroughly. And the construction turns out to be stable and durable.

You can also distinguish differences in purpose: the gazebo can be more decorative or functional. Accordingly, the second option has more requirements. For example, in the case of the need to install in the pergola barbecue or oven, more attention is paid to the materials from which the structure is erected, and the layout of objects inside the room.

Arbors can be rectangular, polygonal, round and even combined.
The main thing is to look harmonious.

What is truly impressive variety is the style solutions. Here are some of them:
— Classic. This design is characterized by massiveness and reliability, some decorativeness is also present. The preferred material for manufacturing is wood.
— Modern. Such gazebos are made in a natural color scheme (brown, beige), often equipped with electricity, in their design have straight strict lines, and in the decor — modern furniture.
— Loft. Straight and simple forms, a minimum of details and lack of decorations. It is welcomed rough material finish, a certain asceticism in the interior decoration, the presence of bricks (walls, stoves and so on).
— High-tech. Modern gazebos in black and white or gray coloristics. This style likes metal and glass, so in the gazebo these materials look appropriate. There is no abundance of decor or bright accents, the main thing is simplicity and elegance. And the «chip» of the style can be interesting solutions with lighting: for example, spot lamps or LED strips.

— Art Nouveau. The style itself is very decorative and refined, which means that such gazebos have smooth and curved lines in their designs. The presence of various decorations, elegant elements is only a plus.
— Eco. From the name itself it is clear that the style is closely related to nature. Therefore, natural materials, an abundance of plants and simplicity of execution are the key features of such designs. Often such gazebos are made of logs.

And this is not all. There are chalets — gazebos with a characteristic massiveness, made of planks, beams and logs. Provence with memorable elements of wagon and wooden lattice. Eastern style with an interesting roof, Mediterranean with drapery curtains-sails and much more.

Well, and of course, gazebos differ in the material from which they are made. It can be brick, metal, polycarbonate, glass and even plastic, and much more. All options and their pros and cons. We will emphasize the gazebos made of wood or with wooden trim, which are both beautiful and practical.

Wooden gazebos. Nuances
Wood is a natural and ecological material, which is why it is so popular. It looks organically in almost any design, and fits well into the natural landscape of the sites. However, it has its disadvantages. But first about the pluses.

Advantages. Wood is plastic and easy to process, so it allows you to easily implement many ideas and create unusual shapes. It has a small weight (compared to the same stone or metal), which simplifies installation, and the foundation is required less solid. It is also worth noting that wood is able to maintain an optimal microclimate (due to low thermal conductivity). As we have already noted, an undeniable plus is the environmental friendliness. And also versatility — wood is easily combined with other materials. As for prices, there is a wide range of choices for different budgets with their own nuances.

Disadvantages. Wood is exposed to excessive moisture, temperature fluctuations, pests, is afraid of fire, can deform. Level these disadvantages can be: selecting the right species, regularly and timely treating the material with special protective oils, impregnated with fire retardants for increased fire safety and so on. Fasteners are also important — it is best to use elements designed for wood, they reduce the load on the board and prevent possible deformation (for example, in the process of natural shrinkage).

What kind of wood to choose for a pergola?
Most often for wooden pergolas use wood of coniferous species: pine, larch. If you compare them, then undeniably larch wins over pine in terms of moisture resistance, indifferent to fungal damage or the effects of insect pests. Larch serves longer, but also costs more. To date, pine is used more often. As for finishing, the above materials are still added to the option of using thermo-modified wood. Its peculiarity is that the tree under the influence of high temperatures and steam acquires improved performance properties compared to the untreated analog. The geometric stability of the boards increases — it absorbs moisture, but 6 times less than untreated and does not experience stress when drying. This is especially noticeable in the way the board behaves on the street after the fall and winter season: seams do not increase, joints are not deformed, geometry is preserved. After heat treatment in the wood is practically no breeding ground for fungal pathogens, so thermo-wood does not rot even when used in conditions of high humidity. What is also remarkable is its thermal conductivity. Due to changes in the physical and chemical characteristics of wood, thermo wood has a thermal conductivity 20-25% lower than that of untreated products of the same species. In our catalog you can find products made of thermo pine and thermo ash, which we produce using our own technology.

Important point — any wood requires timely and thorough treatment to prolong its life and maintain its performance. We recommend using wax oils with a natural composition.

What material to choose for the pergola?
As for the types of materials, there is a great variety. To begin with, you need to understand — it will be a completely wooden structure or a combined version (for example, on metal piles, poles with posts and pipes, or with the use of bricks / gypsum blocks, etc.). In the first case, for the frame are used capped logs, planed or glued timber, mini timber (tongue-and-groove board with tongue and groove fastening), lags and posts made of wood. For finishing in both cases, various variants of wagons, imitation timber, planken are used. And on the floor can be laid deck or terrace board.

As you can see, in the modern market there are various options for gazebos of all types, both for purchase on a turnkey basis, and erecting with your own hands. The main thing is to find what you like, all correctly calculated and planned (with which professionals can help). And, of course, choose a quality material. With what we can help you.
